NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette Review, Swatches and Photos

I purchased this palette when I was in my local Shoppers Drug Mart looking for some other NYX products. I didn’t find them, but I did find this. It seemed to be calling out to me from the display, looking so pretty and shimmery - “buy me, buy me” it was saying. So what is a girl to do in that situation? It also helped that I had enough Shoppers points to purchase for free, so off home with me it came.

The palette is aimed at the recent epidemic known as strobing, or simply highlighting to you and I! It has 7 highlighters designed to work with all skin tones and many different applications. There are three large 0.14 oz. pans and four smaller 0.07 oz. pans. They come in a simple black palette with clear lid but there are no brushes and no mirror, but the package feels sturdy and the catch is secure.

The top row from left to right:

True Gold with Gold Pearl: This is too dark for me, but would work well with darker skin as it has a rich golden shimmer.

Cool Toned Light Pink Shimmer: This one does work well for me as it is perfect for fair skins with a cool undertone. This one has probably the least colour payoff and is quite subtle.

Lavender With Shimmer: As well as being a highlighter, this could also work well as an eyeshadow. The lavender will also brighten the face as it counteracts dullness.

Golden Pink With Shimmer: This is a darker shade also perfect for darker skins. I would also be tempted to use it as a blush.

Bottom row left to right:

Light Gold With Peachy Undertones and Shimmer: One of my favourites and perfect for fair skins but would work equally for well darker skins.

Bronze With Gold Pearl: This is another one which is better suited to darker skin or as a blush for fair skin.

True Champagne With Shimmer: My ultimate favourite for my fair skin. It adds a pretty glow without being overwhelming.

I found all the shades to feel very smooth and velvety and glided on the skin smoothly. They are also easily blendable and can be mixed together to create a bespoke shade. Each of the shades offer great colour payoff, especially if applied with the fingers rather than a brush. If you want a soft subtle effect then I recommend a small fan brush for application. Remember you can start off light and build as required.

Overall I really love the Strobe palette and whilst it is one of NYX higher priced products it is very much worth it and compares well with other high-end, higher priced products. The quality is excellent, they blend well and have great colour payoff and as I mentioned could be used as eyeshadow and blush as well, so great value for money. I cannot recommend this palette enough.
