Boxycharm January 2018 unboxing, photos and swatches
It's Boxycharm time again, and this time the theme is Rock 2018, so what has this box got in store for me? Let's take a look.
Dr Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer
I generally like Dr Brandt products and Boxycharm tends to throw one or two items in every few months, so I'm always pleased to get them. These days, I don't always use a primer but I have already tried this out and it is pretty good.
It says you can use this on its own to give your skin and illuminated look. My skin is not good enough to go without foundation but you could definitely see the effect on my skin. I used it under my foundation which was L'oreal Infallible Pro Matte and I lost the illuminating effect, which didn't surprise me as it is a mattifying foundation. I'm sure with a lighter foundation it would allow the glow to show through. Overall though, a nice primer. Value $38 USD.
PUR Bronze and Brighten Cheek Palette
When I first saw this, my immediate reaction was, not another highlighting and blush palette. I've had several of each over the past months, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this.
As you can see by my swatches, this is incredibly pigmented. These are just single swipes over the palette and onto my arm.
Now, I could never use this as a bronzer, it is way too dark for my pale skin and the blush shade is also way off for me. But, I would use them as eyeshadows and of course, the middle highlighter shade is just fine for almost anywhere. The retail value of the palette is $34 USD.
Girlactik Matte Lip Paint
This lipstick is a no no for me. I really hate most liquid matte lipsticks, as any regular readers will know. Also, this shade (Demure) is way too dark for me, so another no no! When I saw the spoilers for this box, they mentioned this lipstick and also a lip plumper, so I was really hoping for the plumper, but no, I got another bloody liquid matte lipstick. Oh well! Value $23 USD.
It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil
I love brow products, but usually, when I get them in subscription boxes they are always too dark. In September's box, I got the MAC pencil and it was a great shade for me and it turns out this one is too. Yippee!
I questioned how a single brow shade can be universal, but, frankly, I don't care. This is the right shade of taupe for me, so I'm happy. It has a twisty end, so you just twist and use and the shape of the tip is nice as it allows for fine strokes as well as full coverage fill in. It also has a handy spoolie on the other end for brushing through the brows. Retail value $24 USD.
Crown Pro Glam Metals Palette
I m quite familiar with Crown as a brush company, but had no idea they had makeup too, so this palette was a surprise.
Now, I first off have to say I hate the packaging. I know many people love it, but it's not for me and here's why. It looks dirty! To me, it looks like it has been smeared with eyeshadow and got really messy. I know I'm being picky, but that's what I think. I do like the guitar-shaped mirror, but at the same time, it does restrict the size of it.
As for the actual shadows, they are all metallics except the Black Metal one. I will do a full review of this palette once I used it a few times and can give an honest opinion. Retail value $25 USD.
I am very pleased with this box and with the exception of the lipstick will use all of the items. In total the retail value is $144 USD, so around $175 CND, so well worth the $21 expenditure. Boxycharm continues to be one of my favourite subscription boxes and as long as I keep getting great products like these, I will keep subscribing.
