My September 2017 Boxycharm Unboxing and Swatches

This month's Boxycharm was a little later than usual, but as the company is based in Miami and Hurricane Irma put Florida into a state of chaos, I can definitely forgive this. But it was worth the wait!

So, let's take a look at this months bounty. First off the September Boxycharm theme is Boxy Baddie. Not entirely sure what the contents have to do with this, but who am I to argue with Boxycharm logic?

As usual, the little box is full of big goodies. This month there are six items instead of the usual five, which will get no argumetns from me! Here is what was in my box this month.

MAC Cosmetics - Eyebrow Pencil

This is the first time I've received a MAC product in a beauty box and for once it looks like it might be an eyebrow pencil I could actually use. I am very fair and my brows and hair very naturally blonde, so more often than not the brow product I receive in boxes are far too dark for me. This one is on the lighter side, so I must give this one a try.

The pencil lid was very hard to remove, but once off revealed a slanted point that self-propelled and self-sharpens. The shade I received was called Lingering, swatch at end of post. Retail price $18 USD.

Studio Makeup - Loose Blush

This is a loose blush that you should tip into the lid and then dip your brush into then apply to cheeks. Swatch at end of post. Retail price $35 USD.

PUR - Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette

Another eyeshadow palette from Boxycharm which I most definitely am not complaining about. I love eyeshadow palettes, even ones I don't use very much are still very welcome.

This palette is called an essential palette. As it is full of neutrals and earthy shades I have to agree that if you like the shades then it would be a goto palette for many people. It's too early to say whether this will become one of my staple palettes, but this is my first impression of it.

The shades are laid out nicely from lighter to darker, top to bottom. The top and middle rows are all matte shades which is nice. The bottom row has four metallic shimmers. There is a range of cool and warm shades, so something for everyone.

I found the shadows did kick back a little in the pan, but nothing too bad. They are quite soft to use and the colour payoff was great when used over a primer, but not so much on bare skin. I also found, that when used on bare skin there was some fallout.

My swatches were done using a primer on the top half (Too Faced Shadow Insurance) and bare skin on the bottom. All applied using my Hakuhodo 5523 brush.

Here are the left two columns, top to bottom swatches.

And the right two columns

Overall I am quite pleased with this palette. I will continue to use it and if I come across any major negatives, I'll let you know. Retail price $34 USD.

bareMinerals - Face Perfecting Brush

This is a foundation brush with a difference. I have seen this type of brush about but never used one, so this will be interesting. What makes it different is that the end of the bristles have an indented center section where you can deposit liquid foundation and then using a swirling motion apply it to your face.

I haven't used this yet, but am quite excited to try it out. I love brushes and use liquid foundation, so I'm hoping this will work for me. I'll let you know.  Retail price $28 USD.

Briogeo - Don't Despair Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask

I love hair products almost as much as makeup, so very glad to get this item. You are supposed to first shampoo your hair, then apply this conditioner and leave on the air for at least 10 minutes before rinsing off. They also say that for a deeper treatment cover hair in a plastic cap and sit under a dryer for 30 minutes, then rinse.

Well, I tried this today - the ten-minute version anyway and it definitely left my hair feeling silky smooth and easy to comb/brush through. It hasn't left it fly away like many products do and it still feels manageable. So far, so good. Retail price $20 USD.

Colourpop - Ultra Satin Lip

I have been wanting to try Colourpop products for ages, but very disappointed that this liquid lippy is my first experience. I personally don't like liquid lipstick as I find it far too drying and this shade is really not for me. This is the only product in the box I definitely will not use. Retail price $6 USD.

This is a swatch of the brow pencil. lipstick and blush.

Conclusion

I am very happy with my September Boxycharm. Other than the lipstick I will use all these products. I am most excited by the brush and the eyeshadow palette. After all, you just cannot have too many of either of these. I also like the hair conditioner so far, so this might be something that I will add to my hair routine in the future.

A great box Boxycharm, you've done it again. The retail value of my box is $141 USD, so for an outlay of $21, it is so worth it. Can't wait for the next one.
