September Ipsy Glam Bag Review

September Ipsy Glam Bag Review

I am a little late with my review of the September Ipsy Glam Bag. I was on holiday, so received it late and then needed time to actually test the products before I could review them. But, I’ve done it now, so here goes.

As usual, you receive the Glam Bag in a lovely bright pink bubble mailer and inside is a makeup bag with 5 deluxe beauty samples. If you review the samples, share on social media etc you accumulate points which can be used against product purchases on the Ipsy website.

September Ipsy Glam Bag

The bag is quite nice this month with a nice feel and nice colours: brown, gold and white with a metallic finish. There are dancing girls on the front spelling out Ipsy. The theme is Glamazon.

Briogeo - Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask

When I first saw this I thought it was a face mask, but it turns out it is in fact for the hair. As I don’t use face masks, this was better for me. The sample is a good 1 oz size (30g) and the mask is an opaque white cream which is of reasonable consistency. You should shampoo hair then use the mask and leave on hair for 5-10 minutes, then rinse.

I used this and found it did moisturise my hair, but no more so than my normal everyday conditioner. I personally would not start using this in preference to my usual one as there would be no real advantage. It is worth mentioning that it contains vitamins B5, D, A and E and has no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, artificial colours or fragrance.

IT Cosmetics - Superhero™ Mascara in Super Black

This is a 5 ml sample and I was looking forward to trying an IT Cosmetics product as they are not readily available in Canada (although Sephora have just started stocking it). My first thoughts was that it was quite a thick mascara that came out of the tube a bit gloopy. It did apply okay and did make my lashes appear slightly thicker.

Overall, I found this product just okay. It was fine, but nothing special. I still prefer other mascaras to this one and I would not go out of my way to purchase it.

Épicé International - Restorative Toner

This is a good size sample (1 oz/30g) of facial toner. I am always reluctant to try new skincare products as my skin is very oily and it has taken me a long time to find a skincare routine that works for me (Clinique). However, I did try this on one side of my face only so that I could compare.

Overall it was okay, it did dry out my skin a little, which is fine for me as it is oily, but for someone with already dry skin I would think it might be a bit harsh. I found it to be of no great benefit to my skin, so won’t repurchase this.

BelláPierre Cosmetics - Mineral Blush in Autumn Glow

As soon a I saw this I knew it was not for me. I am very pale and this was a very orangey blush which just did not suit me. However, leaving the shade aside, the formula was very smooth and went on well. It has good pigmentation, so a little goes a long way. It is quite shimmery, so if that is not your thing then you won’t like it.

Although this shade is not for me I would be willing to try this product in another more suitable shade as overall I liked the formula. It is also worth noting that it is talc-free and paraben-free.

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics - Nail Polish in Va Voom

This is a large sample bottle (13.5 ml/0.46 fl oz) of nail polish and was sent out in either fuschia (bright pink) or Va Voom (deep purple). I got the purple, but so wish I had the pink. Oh well, never mind.

As it happens, I was not hugely impressed by the polish. It was quite thick and gloopy which made it hard to get a smooth finish on the nail. Once two coats were used it was even thicker which meant that I had to keep my hands away from everything for quite some time till it dried properly to prevent the polish being gouged. Even my careful use of the product still didn’t stop me from getting indents in the polish even hours after application. I would not repurchase this.

Overall thoughts

I am very disappointed with this month's Glam Bag as none of the products were right for me and none of them impressed me. There isn’t anything I would buy myself, the only possible exception would be the blush in another shade. But then again I am happy with the NARS and NYX blushes I already use, so I still would not buy this.

Oh well, let's hope the October Glam Bag is much better.
