Urban Decay Revolution Hi-Color Lipgloss Swatches and Review
Urban Decay launched this line of lipgloss last year with, I think, fourteen shades and has now expanded that to 22 shades. They sell for $22 USD or $26 CAD for a 5.1 ml / 0.17 fl oz tube. However, I came across this when I purchased their travel-size duo as I wanted to try it without committing to purchasing full tubes.
Urban Decay revolution Lipgloss Double Shot Travel-Size Duo
This duo came with two tubes each of which is 3 ml / 0.10 fl oz. First off, the tubes are really nice. They are a flattened cylinder shape which means they “pocket-friendly” and have a silicone paddle applicator. They also have gunmetal coloured lid and bottom accents which look very classy, in my opinion.
As I mentioned this range is available in 22 shades, but the two in this box are Liar, a neutral shade and Anarchy a bright fuschia pink. They are very pigmented shades as you would expect from Urban Decay and have reasonable coverage.
I found the application the most frustrating thing about this product. I really wanted to love this, but I’m afraid I don’t. The applicator it comes with seems to smear the gloss on the lips making for an uneven coverage. With both shades I needed at least two layers to get good coverage and then it left my lips looking patchy and streaky. It was also hard to get a clean line around the edges of the lips, making the application look less than perfect. I am not sure if it is the gloss itself or the applicator, or a combination of both but I could never get the lipgloss to look nice and even.
Many people don’t like lipgloss when it leaves your lips feeling really sticky, I am one of those people! This is sort of in the middle where it is not crazy sticky, but it is quite tacky. I have long hair and when it blows over my face and gets stuck to my lips, I hate it and this does fail the hair stickiness test. Also, because it never really feels dry I ended up with pink in my hair with the colour transfer. One thing in its favour is that it does not have any taste or smell which many of you will be very pleased about.
As for lasting power, I did find it stayed on my lips for several hours as long as I left it alone. If I ate or drank, it disappeared, regardless of how long it had been on my lips.
I really wanted to love this product as it comes in such a lovely range of shades, but I really don’t. The application issues alone are enough to put me off and it doesn’t stay on long enough through real-world usage. I am glad I started of with the trial duo as I didn't waste too much money on them, but I would not be tempted to buy this range again.
