Vintage Illuminating Face Highlighter From my November Boxycharm Review and Swatches
I received this highlighter as one of my November Boxycharm items and was quite eager to try it out. First off, this palette comes in a pretty white box with gold roses on it. The brand Vintage is not one I had heard of before but the packaging made me want to try it out.
Once inside the box the highlighter is inside a sturdy plastic white compact that has a good clasp so it won't accidentally open in your purse. The inside of the compact has a good size mirror for those easy touchups.
Now for the product itself. This is promoted as having “reflective pearls that add radiance on contact, a delicate glow, and a diamond-like finish to the skin.”
I always use a fan brush to apply highlighter and this is how Boxycharm advise you to use this by sweeping highlight onto your cheekbones after you have applied your brush, although I assume they mean blush! LOL!
The shade at first glance, looks very pink with peachy undertones and a slight shimmer. As I am very fair, I usually use a much lighter highlight and my favorite is the True Champagne from the NYX Strobe of Genius palette - full review here. So, this highlighter was far darker and much pinker than one I would normally use.
As directed and as I would normally wear highlighter, I applied this on the tops of my cheeks above blush (NARS Orgasm). It definitely works as a highlighter as it has a beautiful shimmer and iridescence to it when catching the light. The shade is much more subtle when on the face that it appears in the palette, much to my relief. If used on my skin, above my blush it was more peachy gold, but used over my blush it added a golden glow to it.
The photo below shows the highlighter on its own on the left swatch and the swatch on the right has my NARS Orgasm blush on its own to the left and brushed over with the highlighter to the right. You can definitely see the difference the highlighter makes.
Overall I am very pleased with this item. The packaging is beautiful and the product itself is very pretty and useable. The only small criticism I would have is that when I dip my fan brush into the palette it does create quite a bit of fallout. You need to be gentle when applying it to the brush, but other than that I am truly happy with this and will put it to good use.
