Why I’m not excited by the Kat Von D x Too Faced Collaboration
We knew it was coming as we have been teased by both Kat Von D and Too Faced about this collaboration for some time. I for one, usually love anything KVD brings out as my makeup collection will testify, I also love many of the Too Faced products, so I was eagerly awaiting this launch. But I have to say, I am really disappointed with the palette. I know this will mean many people will want to whip me with mascara wands, but I’m really not impressed, and here is why.
The collection is called “Better Together” and is a collaboration between Kat Von D and Too Faced Co-Founder Jerrod Blandino. As a whole, the collection is quite stunning with a 12 pan eyeshadow palette, featuring six shades from Kat Von D and six from Too Faced and it also includes a full-size Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and a full-size Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
The palette is in a pretty heart shape made from two completely separate sides which lock together magnetically and will be sold as a complete palette. The outside of the Too Faced side is pink with gold floral design. Inside you will find six heart-shaped pans with two matte and four shimmer shades with names that relate to love and friendship:
- Heart of Gold
- Power Couple
- Better Together
The Kat Von D side is black with gold florals and has six rectangular pans in darker more Kat-like shades with similarly love-based names:
- Por Vida
The collection also includes a two-sided makeup bag, one side has Kat’s cat Piaf’s likeness and the other has Jerrod’s dog Clover which is kinda cute. The bag comes with two cheek minis from Too Faced and two lip minis from KVD.
Although I love the design of the palette and love the extra goodies that come with it, I can’t help but feel disappointed with the colors. They just don’t inspire me and seem rather drab and bland compared with previous offering from both companies. They also seem as if they are going to very dupable. I am sure I am in the minority and I’m absolutely certain everyone will rush out to buy it and within days, possibly hours the stocks will run out and everyone will be beside themselves until new stock is released. I am also certain that the quality of the eyeshadows will be brilliant as both companies have great track records for beautifully blendable, long-lasting shadows, but I will not be rushing out to buy it.
Now if Kat or Jerrod feel the urge to send me a sample collection, I will be more than happy to be proved wrong, but until that unlikely event happens, I will be watching from the wings to see what others think.
The Kat Von D x Too Faced Collection will be launched December 2016.
